In line with the research mission of educational centers, the Geography Department of University of Birjand  aims to investigate and disseminate scientific findings related to the geographical, environmental, economic, social, cultural, and political dimensions of rural settlements. The publication of the quarterly "Village and space sustainable development (VSSD)" in University of Birjand  is intended to help strengthen the functions of these local settlements in sustainable development of geographical spaces and optimal use of the scientific capabilities of researchers across the country.

The target audience of the journal includes planners and managers of geographical spaces and rural development, national, regional, and local project managers at various levels of rural development planning, professors and students of geography, agriculture promotion, social sciences, economics, and other researchers working in the field of rural development issues.
