During the recent decades, the implementation of numerous plans by different organizations on the one hand and modernization trends in social-economic areas on the other hand have made drastic changes in rural areas. These changes have clearly influenced different sub-systems of villages, for example rural houses. The need of villages for suitable housing has resulted in the implementation of some projects by related governmental institutions such as Housing Foundation of Islamic Revolution in the form of implementing rural houses’ retrofitting (renovation and improvement plans) during the decades after the Islamic Revolution. These projects have had much influence on different dimensions of rural houses. The purpose of the present research is to study the effects of these projects and plans on the life of villagers and the structures and functions of rural settlements. The population of the research included 17 villages of Shourdasht rural district, Hamadan, and the sample included 6 villages (Moslemabad, Rahjerd, Qeshlaq-e Olya, Kowzareh, Khomajin, and Kheyrabad). Based on the Cochran’s formula, the size of the sample was determined to be 93 households who had taken retrofitting loans from Housing Foundation of Islamic Revolution in the last three years. The data were gathered using library research and survey. The results indicate that the most crucial influence of retrofitting policy has been on physical dimension (mean=3.54) and social dimension (mean=3.45).
